Cookies, just cookies

There was a time in the not so distant past when evenings meant bars, or at the very least, friends over for drinks and games. That time is no longer, but what has been lost in social gatherings has been (partially) made up for in watching low-stakes British mysteries.

My hair is greying and for whatever reason, lately the only type of show Evan and I can agree on is a mystery - the types of shows that require a trial subscription to PBS all access and probably age you by about 5 years per episode.

In the midst of this, Evan chases his youth by clinging to his childhood pastime of eating raw cookie dough. One of the most underrated benefits, in my humble opinion, of the vegan diet, is that I can now set aside raw cookie dough for my husband’s consumption without the potential risk of salmonella. A win-win for all parties.

These chocolate walnut cookies are a recipe from Veganomicon. The recipe is basic (cocoa powder, flour, sugar, oil, non-dairy milk, etc.) but the results fresh from the oven? They’re a pretty magical cookie brownie hybrid. And for any dough lovers amongst us, they may not be the fountain of youth, but for now, they’ll do.
